Linkmap OTDR
Optic fiber testing app
Context
LinkMap OTDR is a mobile application developed for AFL Global, designed to configure and perform tests on optical fiber cables and fiber groups.
The app runs on both Android devices and AFL's custom Rogue iB1 hardware unit, allowing technicians to perform field tests, visualize results graphically, and securely store data in AFL's private cloud platform (aeRos) for reporting and archiving.
It supports both online and offline modes, enabling uninterrupted use in demanding environments where connectivity may be limited.
Approach
I joined the project as a Xamarin Developer, contributing across multiple areas including bug resolution, feature implementation, and architectural improvements.
My work focused on solving complex issues affecting stability and performance, performing large-scale refactoring to simplify and strengthen the application's architecture, and implementing new functionalities that expanded the app's capabilities.
I also worked directly with the client, providing technical guidance and implementation feedback to ensure feature design aligned with real-world use cases and field requirements.
Impact
- Refactored major parts of the codebase for better performance and maintainability
- Collaborated closely with the client, improving communication and delivery outcomes
